MALLORY IS SAFE

We have Mallory--she was seen again at the intersection of 16th and Kennedy and a volunteer was in the right place at the right time!

Many, many thanks to those of you who helped--you are the backbone of this effort. From flyering to crossposting, from making phone calls to checking feeding stations, from trap monitoring to releasing trapped racoons, we couldn't have done it without you!

Thank you also to all those who called in sightings as Mallory moved from Takoma Park to Hyattsville, to Chevy Chase and over to Cleveland Park, and finally back near Carter Barron and Walter Reed.

For those of you following the search: Mallory is still in need of a forever home, along with many other Homeward Trails animals. Click here to see them all!

More sightings, 08/17/09

Mallory was seen at 16th and Van Buren, 16th and Kennedy, 16th and Allison, and 16th and Emerson tonight.

We set up feeding stations in the area in the hope that we can get her eating and that she'll stop wandering in search of food. Once she's consistently eating from our stations, we can move toward trapping her and returning her to safety. We have to trap her since she's running from anyone who sees her; we are unlikely to be able to walk up to her and put a leash on her. And unlike other dogs, Mallory has no home and no family, so she won't find her own way home.

We still need to spread the word that this scared girl is on the loose, and that we're still looking for her. Please join us to flyer and bring Mallory back to safety.

Delayed sighting report from 08/13 or 08/14

Mallory was seen on the West side of Rock Creek Park last week, either Thursday or Friday. The caller saw Mallory off of Rock Creek Parkway near Connecticut Avenue, and then again at Reno, running away from Tilden.

She may have been chased--which is the last thing we want to do. If you see Mallory, do not chase her. Please call us immediately instead.

Thanks!

SIGHTINGS: 08/17/09, 8:00 am; 8:30 am

A caller saw Mallory at around 8:15/8:30 running from Colorado Avenue on 14th Street towards Military & Missouri headed towards Walter Reed.

She was seen earlier entering Rock Creek Park at about 8:00 am this morning, near Military and Joyce.

At 7:00 she was at 14th and Alaska.

Possible Sighting: 08/17/09, 7:00 am, Walter Reed off 14th, LIMPING

Can anyone help us flyer that area????

It is reported that she is now limping. We are DESPERATE to get her.
We spent the weekend flyering in PG county and downtown Silver Spring.
Just got the sighting of her near Walter Reed this morning. She is moving
quickly and we're always a step behind. We have to flyer this area
before she moves again.

If you are in the area, please consider helping! Those of you who
have done these searches understand how scary and worrisome this
situation is!

Tracking map, 08/14/09

Here's the map from the track on Friday--but note that our Sunday sightings put Mallory far west of this track, so we need to flyer the entire area.

Sunday, August 16, 2009

Possible sighting: 08//16/09, East West Hwy and Colesville, in Silver Spring

We had a possible sighting of our girl all the way in Silver Spring--so we need to flyer from the intersection of East West Hwy and 16th in Silver Spring all the way to the intersection of East West Hwy and Route 1--and we need your help to do it!

Thursday, August 13, 2009

Join us to flyer on Sunday, August 16, 11:00!

All:

We had the tracker out on Friday night and Mallory was traced all the way to Route 1 and East West Hwy. We're having another search/fliering party for Mallory on Sunday, 11:00 AM. While we've previously fliered the area, we've since had the tracker out and need to flier based on her track and expand the area already covered. We need to let people know that Mallory is still out there and we still need assistance.

If you can join us, please let us know at 301-642-0337 or 917-412-9540.

Where: 99 Ritchie Ave, Silver Spring, MD 20910
When: Sunday, August 16, 2009, at 11:00 AM. Come at any time after that if you can't make it at 11:00 exactly.
What: Flier the area and search for Mallory.
What to bring: 50 copies of the flier (can be downloaded from the blog, e-mailed to you, or we will print out extras to give to you when you arrive), 50 plastic sheet covers (to protect the fliers from rain). 50 thumbtacks to hang your fliers. Mallory's business cards, to hand out to folks you meet while fliering. Stinky treats, like hot dogs or cat food. A leash. Water and a snack for you.
What to wear: Wear comfortable walking clothing and a red shirt or jacket so we can easily identify you as part of the search team. Plan to stick a flier on the back of your shirt.

Before you come: Monitor Mallory's blog for updates and additional details and download the flier from here, too (www.findmallory.blogspot.com).

Thanks!

Chip in to help fund the search for Mallory!

No new sightings--need a massive flyering effort

We've had no sightings in two days--this is bad news.

We need to expand the area flyered and hand out business cards at the Takoma Park and PG Plaza metro stations.

Please join us! Spread the word!

SIGHTING: 08/10/09, Takoma Park

We had another sighting tonight, near the sighting location at Larch: 1013 East-West Hwy.

Anyone available to help flyer or monitor a trap?

SIGHTINGS: 08/10/09: East-West Hwy heading toward Takoma Park

We had two sightings this morning, both with Mallory heading along East-West Hwy toward Takoma Park.

If you see Mallory, please do not chase her!

Thank you!

SIGHTINGS: 08/08/09 between Takoma and Langley

We had lots of sightings today--check out the sighting map for details! It seems as though Mallory is circling back toward Takoma Park, but she may still return to Langley Park.

Thank you to all who helped flyered, and to those who called in sightings!

If you have time to continue to help us flyer tomorrow, please get in touch. We need to cover the western side of Piney Branch as well as the area from New Hampshire to Carrol on East-West Hwy.

Thanks!

More flyering needed--please help!

We saw Mallory several times this AM, but we've heard nothing about her whereabouts this afternoon or evening. This means that Mallory is somewhere where our flyers are not. We need to cover the area surrounding 5202 East West Hwy with flyers.

If you can help us flyer, please get in touch to find out where to get supplies and receive a flyering assignment.

You can also now follow Mallory's search on Facebook!

Thanks!

SIGHTING: 10:45 am, Chillum Manor and East West

Our girl is in a volunteer's sight, in Langley Park. We've previously caught a dog in this area and know it well!

We're hoping to set up a feeding station and keep our girl from moving away from this area.

Thanks to all who have been responding!

SIGHTING: 08/07/09, 9:30 AM, 3301 East-West Hwy

Mallory may have been seen near the Home Depot, 3301 East West Hwy, Hyattsville, MD, around 9:30 this morning.

Mallory's first foster lives near this sighting, so it's possible that our girl is trying to find her way back to her first foster's home.

Thank you to all the volunteers

Thanks to all who helped yesterday! We had a great turn out. We are really appreciative of everyone's efforts. We are now waiting for sightings. Fingers crossed!

Outreach status

Information about Mallory has been posted to area listserves, as well as to Craig's List. The shelter has been contacted, as have a few area businesses:

Woof, Fetch, Living Ruff, Silver Spring AH, and Ambassador.

We've put up several hundred flyers and are hoping to receive a sighting call shortly.

Please help spread the word!

To those of you who have been out to help flyer or spread the word in other ways already--thank you so much. We still need more flyering, so hope you'll continue to assist us in bringing Mallory back to safety.

If you can help on site, or from a distance, please leave a comment. Thank you!

Mallory is lost

Mallory is lost in Takoma Park. We desperately need help flyering the area--if you can help, please leave a comment.

Here is more info about her:

Mallory is a sweet, shy little girl who was rescued as a stray and brought to a high-kill rural shelter. The people who had called the shelter to come and get her had been seeing her around the neighborhood for a while, but couldn't seem to locate an owner for her. Mallory is now lost, after spending a few days living in a foster home with other dogs, where she was warming up to the people who give her affection.

Please help us bring her back to safety.
